Ruth Leone Sudduth

 
 

Ruth Leone (Campbell) Dixon Sudduth, 98 of North Lewisburg passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020 in the Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana.

She was born July 27, 1922 in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of George P. and Hattie B. (Kennel) Campbell.

At a young age, Ruth and her siblings, along with her parents were in a travelling family gospel band and singing group known as "The Singing Campbells" where Ruth played the guitar, mandolin and the banjo. Ruth was a 1940 graduate of Urbana High School. Ruth married Bob Dixon in 1943 and moved to Middletown. Bob passed unexpectedly in 1952. Ruth met and married Floyd Sudduth on August 3, 1957. She moved to Cherry Arbors in 1995, where she resided for 24 years. She was self-employed in collections, before working as the utility clerk for the Village of North Lewisburg from where she retired in 2011 at the age of 89. She attended Middletown Church of God for over 76 years where she served at a song leader, choir director and youth leader. Over her lifetime, Ruth had many hobbies including sewing, knitting, crocheting, bead working and stained glass. 

She is survived by her daughters, Juanita Brooks and Kathryn Wilson; grandchildren, Robert Dixon, Jason Dixon, David Brooks, Jessie Wilson and Jamie Wilson; 5 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands; Bob and Floyd; children, Mildred Crosbie and John Dixon; 4 sisters and 3 brothers and grandchildren Monica and Michael Brooks and John Dixon.

Guests are respectfully asked to wear masks and attendance will be monitored to ensure safety for everyone attending.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2020 in the Freshwater, McDonald & Vernon Funeral Home, North Lewisburg with Pastor John Instine officiating; where friends may call from 10-11 a.m. prior to funeral services. 

Burial will follow in Kingscreek Cemetery.
